Foundation and Early Years
DBS College was established as a premier science institution in the region by Dr. M. B. Srivastava, the visionary founder and Principal. From its inception, the Department of Chemistry has been integral to the college's mission, significantly contributing to its reputation as a leading center for scientific education. The department's initial success can be attributed to the dedicated efforts of Dr. B. B. Raizada, the founder Head of the Department.
Growth and Achievements
The department began its journey in 1961 with the introduction of degree classes. By 1969, it had expanded into a full-fledged post-graduate department. Over the years, the Department of Chemistry became highly sought after by students, reflecting its excellence in education. The college boasts an impressive record of 100% first divisions in MSc final examinations for several years, alongside a high percentage of first divisions in degree classes and numerous merit positions in the university.

Currently, the department is led by Dr. Anju Bhatnagar, with a dedicated team of faculty members including Dr. Shail Kulshrestha, Dr. Mahima Srivastava, Dr. Surekha Kannojia, Dr. Rakesh Singh, Dr. Sonu Diwedi, Dr. Radhey Shyam, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Ajay Kumar Srivastava, Dr. Shivani Pattanik, Dr. Shaily, and Dr. Abhishek Gupta.
Academic Excellence
Each year, the department enrolls 44 students in various postgraduate courses, including inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. The academic prowess of our students is evident from their achievements. Notably, Ankita Bhatt was awarded the GOLD MEDAL in Chemistry for the academic session 2020. Additionally, numerous students have cleared prestigious exams such as UGC NET, JRF, GATE, and CSIR-NET, with Sagar Faujdar securing the top position in CSIR-NET.
Research and Innovation
The Department of Chemistry prides itself on a robust research culture. It has published over 100 research papers in highly reputed journals and successfully completed numerous minor and major research projects funded by ONGC, UGC, UCOST, and CSIR. The department continues to be a major guidance center for Human Resource Development, with many research fellows working under the mentorship of our esteemed faculty. Faculty members have awarded several Ph.D. degrees in the field of chemistry and are actively engaged in ongoing research.

The faculty of the department have been awarded several patents, showcasing their innovative contributions to the field of chemistry. In addition to research papers and patents, past and present faculty members have authored several books on Chemistry, further contributing to the academic and scientific community.
